Have you felt a tug in your heart during Mass? Are you drawn to the beauty of Catholic tradition, the rhythm of the liturgy, or the mystery of the Sacraments? Do you sense that God is calling you to something deeper?

If so, we invite you to take the next step through the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) — the process by which adults explore, embrace, and enter fully into the Catholic Church.

Whether you’re unbaptized, baptized in another Christian tradition, or a Catholic seeking full communion, OCIA offers a guided, grace-filled journey of transformation. With the support of a welcoming faith community, dedicated catechists, and the powerful movement of the Holy Spirit, you’ll grow in knowledge, prayer, and discipleship.

Our OCIA program at Holy Name, St. Dominic, and St. Clement Parishes begins each year in September and culminates in the joyful celebration of the Easter Vigil. Sessions offer engaging discussions on Scripture, the Creed, the Sacraments, the Mass, Mary and the Saints, Catholic Social Teaching, Prayer, and more.

Frequentyly Asked Questions

Becoming Catholic is not the end of a journey — it's a new beginning! You’ll continue to grow in your relationship with Christ through the Sacraments, Scripture, service, and fellowship. Our parish community is here to support you as you deepen your faith and discover how God is calling you to live as a disciple in the world.

The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) is the process through which adults come to explore and, if they feel called, enter into full communion with the Catholic Church. Whether you're just beginning to ask questions or are ready to take concrete steps toward the Sacraments, OCIA offers a gentle, structured, and grace-filled journey of discovery.

Not at all. You're welcome to begin the OCIA process simply with a heart open to learning. No prior commitment is required. We understand that faith unfolds gradually, and we invite you to come with your questions, your curiosity, and your unique story. This is a safe and sacred space to explore what it means to live the Christian life in the Catholic tradition.

That’s okay. Discernment is a journey, and feeling uncertain at times is part of that journey. If doubts or questions arise, we encourage you to speak with our OCIA coordinator for guidance and support. You are always free to pause or step away from the process — and should you ever feel called to return, you will be warmly welcomed back.

The first step is a simple one: reach out and have a conversation. You can speak with our OCIA coordinator to ask questions and learn more — no pressure, no obligations. OCIA sessions are held on the second and fourth Sundays, beginning in September, from 9:00–10:15 a.m., followed by Mass at 10:30 a.m. This is a beautiful opportunity to learn and grow while being embraced by the life of the parish community.

For the unbaptized, OCIA typically involves about a year of preparation, though this can vary based on individual readiness. After a time of inquiry, you'll enter the Catechumenate, a deeper period of formation through prayer, community, Scripture, and service. The final stage of preparation takes place during Lent, leading to the joyful celebration of Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist at the Easter Vigil — the most sacred night of the Church year.

This depends on your individual spiritual journey and prior Christian formation. If you’ve been baptized in another Christian denomination, your preparation will focus on the richness of Catholic teaching and sacramental life. The process may take a few months or longer, depending on your personal readiness — and we're here to walk with you every step of the way.

You are still part of the Church, and we’re so glad you’re here. Your path will likely involve a shorter period of preparation, with a focus on the Sacraments you have not yet received. The OCIA coordinator can help design a plan tailored to your needs.

No — the gift of faith is freely given, and so is the OCIA process.

Absolutely. You are welcome to bring someone with you for support — whether they’re exploring the faith with you or simply there to accompany you on your journey. In time, you may also choose a sponsor, someone who will walk with you more closely in faith and prayer.
